A certificate of conduct is a letter from an employer and is usually given to an employee as a means to provide them with a release from employment. The letter provides the recipient with information concerning their employment, such as the terms and conditions of their termination, termination date or notice period they were provided, reason for dismissal, as well as any severance package they were offered. If the employee accepts this offer then they sign it and send it back. The employer will then sign it after receiving it back and keep both copies for their records. A certificate of conduct can be either written or electronically issued. They are also issued in various languages. A certificate of good conduct is an official document issued by authorities in many countries to persons who have no criminal record, or whose criminal record has been expunged or removed from official records. It may be used to show that the person has no criminal record when applying for employment, title to property, government jobs, etc., where such information might otherwise disqualify them. A certificate of good conduct may be required by law, or simply requested as a matter of policy. It may be required to get residence permit in some countries (especially European ones), e.g., Germany , Poland, France and Belgium for non-EU citizens. A certificate of good conduct is also required for foreign nationals who wish to own firearms, which are restricted or prohibited in their home country. A current certificate of good conduct must be provided every time the individual applies for a handgun permit in Australia, regardless of whether the application is being processed by the Commonwealth Firearm Registry. In the United States, a series of federal statutes gives various federal agencies the authority to grant certificates of good conduct to convicts who have completed their sentences and generally behaved themselves while incarcerated. These certificates may be used to obtain employment. Since federal law bars felons from holding certain jobs, private employers are not required to accept the certificate, but state and local governments are required to do so under the laws of many states. For example, in California, Assembly Bill 2044 allows anyone who obtains a certificate of rehabilitation or a certificate of good conduct to apply for occupational licensing in any field. The Governor may grant a pardon based on the same criteria. There are similar state statutes that grant the same authority in all states except Vermont and Washington DC. For example, in Ohio, "any person who has been convicted in this state or elsewhere of an offense that is not a crime of violence... may apply for a certificate of rehabilitation and pardon from the Governor's Office of Consumer Protection. cfa1e77820
